Der Vorteil der Angst
Angst fängt in unserem Unterbewusstsein an. Es gibt einen Teil unseres Gehirns, das limbische System, eine Gruppe von Hirnstrukturen, die eine wichtige Rolle bei der Regulierung von Emotionen, Gedächtnis und Motivation spielen. Es steuert unsere Reaktionen auf alles, was um uns herum passiert, einschließlich unserer Kampf- oder Fluchtreaktionen.
Unser Gehirn speichert alle emotionalen Ereignisse und nutzt sie, um neue Ereignisse zu bewerten und zu entscheiden, wann es uns in Angst versetzen, zum Kampf oder zur Flucht veranlassen soll. Das ist eine Art, uns zu schützen, und oft ist es nicht richtig und übertrieben.
Gott hat uns so gemacht, also weiß er, dass unser Gehirn uns manchmal Angst macht, wenn wir das nicht sollten. Angst ist an sich nichts Schlechtes. Es ist das, was wir wegen der Angst denken und tun, das das Problem sein kann.
„Fürchte dich nicht, denn ich bin mit dir; hab keine Angst, denn ich bin dein Gott. Ich stärke dich, ich helfe dir auch,
ich stütze dich mit meiner gerechten rechten Hand.“
„Denn ich bin der Herr, dein Gott, der deine rechte Hand ergreift und zu dir sagt: Fürchte dich nicht, ich helfe dir.“
„Fürchte dich nicht, du Wurm Jakob, du Volk Israel; ich helfe dir“, spricht der Herr, „und dein Erlöser ist der Heilige Israels.“
Jesaja 41,10.13.14
Dreimal in Jesaja 41 sagt Gott zu Israel, es solle sich nicht fürchten. Gott weiß, was Angst mit uns machen kann. Sie kann uns in die falsche Richtung lenken und Panik, Angst, Sorgen, Fehler, Sünde und viele Handlungen hervorrufen, die wir später bereuen.
Aber Angst hat auch einen Vorteil – sie kann uns zu Gott führen. In Jesaja 41 nennt Gott mehrere Gründe, warum Israel (und wir) ihm vertrauen und die Angst aufgeben sollten.
– Gott ist derjenige, der alle Menschen richten wird.
– Er ist derjenige, der jedes Ereignis bestimmt und jedes Ergebnis kontrolliert.
– Er führt alles zu einem endgültigen Abschluss.
– Er hat sie als sein Volk erwählt und wird sie niemals verstoßen.
– Er IST ihr Gott.
– Er wird sie mit seiner gerechten rechten Hand stärken, ihnen helfen und sie stützen.
– Er wird ihre Feinde vernichten und sie „wie nichts, wie etwas Nicht-Existentes“ zurücklassen.
– Er ist ihr Erlöser, der Heilige Israels.
– Während ihre Feinde zerstreut werden, werden sie sich an ihrem Herrn erfreuen und sich seiner rühmen.
Wenn wir unsere Angst Gott übergeben, wird er all das und noch mehr auch für uns tun! Wenn du das nächste Mal Angst verspürst, denk daran, ihren einzigen Vorteil zu nutzen und sie als Sprungbrett zu verwenden, um dich in die Arme Gottes und all seiner gesegneten Verheißungen zu katapultieren.
Gibt es einen besseren und friedlicheren Ort, an dem man sein kann?

The Benefit of Fear
Fear begins in our subconscious. There’s a part of our brain called the limbic system, a group of brain structures that play a crucial role in regulating emotions, memory, and motivation. It feeds our reactions to everything that happens around us, including our fight or flight responses.
In its storage of memories, our brain keeps all the emotion events and uses them to measure new events and know when to send us into fear, fight, or flight. It’s a way of protecting ourselves, and often it’s not correct and over-reactive.
God made us this way, so He knows our brains sometimes make us fearful when we shouldn’t be. Fear is not bad in and by itself. It’s what we think and do because of fear that can be the problem.
“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you,
I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand, Who says to you, Do not fear, I will help you.”
“Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you people of Israel; I will help you,” declares the Lord, “and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.”
Isaiah 41:10, 13, 14
Three times in Isaiah 41 God tells Israel not to fear. God understands what fear can do to us. It can misdirect us and cause panic, anxiety, worry, mistakes, sin, and a lot of actions we will regret.
But fear has one benefit — it can drive us to God. In Isaiah 41 God gives multiple reasons why Israel (and we) should trust Him and give up fear.
– God is the one who will judge all people.
– He is the one who ordains every event and controls every outcome.
– He is driving everything towards a final conclusion.
– He has chosen them to be His, and He will never cast them away.
– He IS their God.
– He will strengthen, help, and uphold them with His righteous right hand.
– He will destroy their enemies, leaving them “as nothing, as a nonexistent thing.”
– He is their Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
– While their enemies are scattered, they will rejoice in their Lord and glory in Him.
When we surrender our fear to God, He will do all this and more for us, too! The next time you feel fear welling up, remember to take advantage of it’s one benefit and use it to catapult you into the arms of God and all His blessed promises.
What better and more peaceful place is there to be?
